Driver Installation
Introduction
Section titled “Introduction”This chapter installs platform, networking, audio, and graphics drivers after Windows 11 Pro is installed.
Purpose
Section titled “Purpose”Bring the system from a basic Windows installation to a fully supported hardware configuration using official driver sources.
Estimated Time
Section titled “Estimated Time”45-90 minutes.
Difficulty
Section titled “Difficulty”Beginner to moderate.
Required Tools
Section titled “Required Tools”- Internet connection.
- Windows administrator account.
- Browser.
- USB drive if downloading drivers from another machine.
Warnings
Section titled “Warnings”- Use official AMD, Gigabyte, Microsoft, and GPU vendor driver sources.
- Avoid third-party driver updater utilities.
- Restart when installers request it.
- Install chipset drivers before GPU tuning or benchmark work.
- Keep a note of driver versions in the Drivers Appendix.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Section titled “Step-by-Step Instructions”Diagram source: driver-order.mmd
- Run Windows Update until no critical updates remain.
- Install the AMD chipset driver for the B850/AM5 platform from Gigabyte or AMD.
- Restart Windows.
- Install LAN and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth drivers from the motherboard support page if Windows did not install working versions.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Install Realtek or motherboard audio drivers if required.
- Install AMD Radeon graphics drivers for the Gigabyte Radeon RX 9060 XT.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Device Manager and confirm there are no unknown devices.
- Record the installed driver sources and versions in the drivers appendix.
Recommended Driver Order
Section titled “Recommended Driver Order”- Windows Update.
- AMD chipset driver.
- LAN or Wi-Fi driver.
- Bluetooth driver.
- Audio driver.
- AMD Radeon GPU driver.
- Optional utilities only if they provide a required function.
Verification Checklist

- AMD chipset driver is installed.
- Network connectivity works.
- Bluetooth works if needed.
- Audio output works.
- AMD Radeon driver is installed.
- Device Manager has no unknown devices.
- Driver versions are recorded.
Common Mistakes
Section titled “Common Mistakes”- Installing GPU drivers before chipset drivers and Windows Update.
- Using third-party driver bundles.
- Ignoring failed device entries in Device Manager.
- Installing every motherboard utility without a reason.
- Forgetting to restart between driver layers.
